Cell Phone Safety
|
| Cell phone safety has been researched and debated for decades, with ties to cancer still hotly debated. Studies with humans have found cell phones can cause increased headaches related to longer call durations, as well as hotness and tingling around the ear. Other studies have found nerve cell damage and albumen leakage in mammalian brains from cell phones' microwave frequencies... |

Coal Ash
|
Coal ash is the waste
product of combustion in coal-fired power plants, which generate half of the
electricity in the U.S. Due in part to a 2008 spill in Tennessee that flooded
over 300 acres of land, severely damaging homes and property, the EPA is
currently considering whether coal ash should be regulated as hazardous waste.
A decision on the issue is expected in late 2009. Currently, coal ash is
recycled as fill for golf courses, and used in dozens of consumer products
including top soil and carpeting -- right where children crawl and play.

Eating Healthy
|
| A healthy diet is important for maintaining a healthy immune system, and is especially important for growing children. The habits we learn as children often carry over into adulthood, so parents have a special responsibility in developing positive habits. This page offers links to content on our site concerning healthy eating, including the best-selling cookbook from Deirdre Imus. |

Electromagnetic Radiation
|
| Living in a developed society, we are exposed to a variety of
electromagnetic fields (EMF), radio frequency (RF) waves and microwaves
every day. What impact might a regular bath of electromagnetic
radiation (EMR) have on our living tissue over time? Cell phones,
in particular, have come under scrutiny because they direct microwave
power close to the head and are often kept close to the body. A number
of scientists are re-examining the larger issue. |

Environmental Hazards
|
Pollution in our environment can come from many directions, from the end of a smokestack to the end of a cigarette. This page indexes research on a variety of environmental hazards impacting children including pollutants in the air, water and soil. It includes research on dioxin and endocrine-disrupting chemicals as well as mercury and other heavy metals.

Pesticides and Farm Animal Production
|
| What are the environmental health
impacts of farm animal production? Beyond animal wastes, are the tons
of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and rodenticides applied on
farms. These exposures can pose special hazards, particularly to farm
workers and their families, with children and pregnant mothers at
greatest risk. |
